Effective February 23, Sandra E. Brooks, MD, MBA, has expanded upon her responsibilities as Chief Medical Officer of Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals to assume the new role of Executive Vice President and Chief Community Health Equity Officer at Thomas Jefferson University.

She will build upon Jefferson’s longstanding history of collaboration with community partners to reverse health disparities for vulnerable and underrepresented populations, including a leadership role at the Philadelphia Collaborative for Health Equity.

Dr. Brooks will also work to align and oversee the Center for Urban Health and serve as a trusted ambassador for Jefferson’s community programs and will partner with the philanthropy pillar to forge partnerships with and raise funds from external organizations and benefactors that support mitigating health inequities.

Dr. Brooks joined Jefferson in 2019 as Senior Vice President and CMO of TJUH, and professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. An AOA medical graduate of Howard University College of Medicine, she trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and in Gynecologic Oncology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Brooks served as professor and director of the Division of Gynecology Oncology at the University of Maryland for 10 years, focusing her research on health services and cancer disparities. She previously served as principal investigator of one of 21 National Cancer Institute Community Cancer Center programs for promoting health equity, quality, clinical trials and survivorship. Dr. Brooks also holds an MBA from Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business.
